About Us

Since its introduction at WGI World Championships in 2014, the winds division has provided opportunities for wind players across America to participate in the winter pageantry arts alongside their percussion and colorguard counterparts. In the decade since, students without a high school indoor winds program lacked a performance opportunity within a 100+ mile radius of the Middle Tennessee area. That all ended with Obsidian Winds inaugural season in 2025. After an electric finish to the 2025 season, ObsidianWinds is excited to make the move to Independent Open Class for 2026. We will be competing in both the SCGC Circuit regionally and WGI Circuit nationally, culminating in Winds and Percussion World Championship Weekend in Dayton, Ohio this April.

  • " If anyone was a "naysayer" it was me until I watched a rehearsal. Good sound teaching and a staff that really has the kids best interest at heart. I'm very impressed with their approach and their successful season! "

  • " I was initially nervous about working a WGI Winds season in with my music performance major and schedule. Obsidian's willingness to work with me and see me succeed in all facets of my life made it very easy to do what I love while not comprimising my classes, schedule, or priorities. "

  • " Your example for excellence has made an impact for our son beyond this organization. He has had tremendous personal growth in all facets of his life and how he shows up for his family and friends. Thank you for being the hype squad they all needed, the calm in the chaos, and the reason the experience was so meaningful. "
